The apartment at 48 Lafayette St. was charming — we were aware of how old it was — but disappointing since it lacked sufficient heating for this time of year: portable heaters can only do so much, particularly on a second story flat just under the roof. Also, as we walked on the kitchen tiles, some type of rusty water sprang up through the seams; I had to continuously pat them dry.
