Unsatisfied in certain ways

My water heater really stinks. I've had this water heater since I purchased this property and haven't replaced it yet, but I want to do so soon. What I appreciate most about it is that the water may become rather hot at first. It becomes so hot that it literally burns. And since we have to pay for water from the City of Tallahassee, it doesn't actually raise my power bill much that much. The water then goes ice cold all at once, straight after one shower. And I come from a large family. We have to wait till the water cools off before one of us can take a shower. And each time it takes approximately an hour, and the water doesn't last long. The initial rain lasts the longest. We sometimes have to take 3 minute showers, and I like lengthy showers. That is my greatest pet peeve. To be honest, I would not suggest this brand to anybody, nor will I purchase it again after my water heater is replaced.

The old thermocouple was shutting down if the air temperature went below 65 degrees F, and this cured the issue completely. Unfortunately, it took two orders to receive the correct component. For the first time, I received an oven knob for a Frigidaire range! Because the barcode sticker for this product was pasted on top of the barcode sticker for the oven knob, Amazon sent me the incorrect item. However, this is not a problem with the component, but rather with the seller and/or Amazon.

It operated perfectly for almost a year. It was released two weeks ago, on the 12th. It opened the lid just enough to reheat the water before closing it again. Miser 6 was put in my home in 2007. The pilot light went out overnight. It features a pilot light starter with a "push down" button and a green igniter button. I tried starting it about 5 times following the guidelines [turn to pilot light setting, let sit at off position,— then move to pilot setting, press down about 5 times and hit the green igniter button and hold down for approximately 1 minute] and it still won't start. Is there anybody who knows what's going on? Is it possible that a thermocouple has failed? Is it possible that it's anything else? Is it preferable to just buy a new heater given the high cost of components and the expense of hiring a repair person?

Kenmore water heaters come in two varieties, both of which are seen here. The first picture depicts a Kenmore unit with three legs. In order to have appropriate airflow, this sort of device must be put atop bricks. The bricks also aid in providing access to the filter for annual cleaning. If the water heater was not put on bricks, the tank must be drained and sat on bricks. Once you've gained access to the bottom, clean the intake using a shop vac. I did some research and discovered how to do this assignment. It simply takes approximately 30 minutes and just three standard tools. The thermostat 9002856 monitors the water temperature and controls the heating element. Before installing this item, turn off the water heater's electricity or turn off the gas supply. Wear work gloves to keep your hands safe. Kenmore's sake.

I've always been a loyal Sears client, but I'm done with them. They clearly do not care about their clients or their safety. This would have certainly cost Sears less than $100.00, so I'm not sure why they went to such measures not to compensate me. I seldom post on Facebook, but I felt it was important to alert others. Unlike Sears, I am concerned about the safety and fair treatment of my consumers. So goodbye, Sears... I hope the $100 you saved was worthwhile.

Okay, I've done some research and determined that it's most likely my thermostat, either higher or lower, and that I should change both while I'm at it. Or potentially an element, but I'm not sure. My real question, aside from any obvious advice, is whether the fact that water got down inside and around the tank (causing some streaky rust marks) makes this heater unworthy of repair, or should I just wipe it down thoroughly when I have the thermostats and or the elements out before reinstalling the new parts.
