Rogers K-Rock Centre

The contract's terms were scheduled to be approved by council on May 1 based on a staff recommendation. It is just the arena's second name change in its existence. Since its inception in February 2008, the venue has been associated with K-Rock radio. Following a request by Rogers Broadcasting Limited to add the Rogers trademark to fit their corporate identity, council authorized the name change to Rogers K-Rock Centre in March 2013.

Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects[2] designed the arena, which was built by EllisDon Construction. It was constructed on city-owned property known as the "North Block," which was previously utilized as a parking lot. Because the southeast half of the site was the previous location of part of the historic Fort Frontenac, an archaeological excavation was required. The fort's northwest bastion's remains are right across the street from the main entrance. The groundbreaking ceremony occurred on July 28, 2006[3], and building began on November 3, 2006. On February 6, 2008, local radio station CIKR-FM (K-Rock) paid $3.3 million for the naming rights to the arena for ten years. [4] On August 14, 2013, the arena was officially christened Rogers K-Rock Centre after Rogers Communications bought control of CIKR-FM. [5]
