Despite not having played organized basketball until his final year of high school, David Robinson joined the US Naval Academy's collegiate basketball squad. He was on the NBA radar after a tremendous growth spurt and significant collegiate success. The San Antonio Spurs selected him first overall in the 1987 NBA Draft, but he had to sit out two seasons due to military duties. David Robinson got off to a quick start in the NBA, debuting in the 1989-90 season. Robinson was voted Rookie of the Year in 1989-90 and retired as a ten-time All-Star, two-time NBA Champion, and NBA MVP in 1995. David Robinson was also a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic "Dream Teams." For six seasons, the two big guys created one of the most spectacular front courts of the period, playing with Tim Duncan. In 2009, Robinson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

It aided in carrying the hobby through an otherwise lean era and had an overly hyped release. The card has a simple design, with a plain white backdrop and an oval window containing a player picture. Inside the red trim is an image of Robinson beaming, which is understandable given that he had just been selected first overall by the Spurs in the 1987 draft. The #310, which is quite similar to the card seen above, was discovered in the Series 2 release of the 1989-90 Hoops collection. It has the same white and red backdrop as the previous one, but instead of the fitted choice, it has an action photo of Robinson.
